June 19, 2006 – NJ Senate and Assembly pass Mike Geltrude Bill:
In an important vote, both houses of the NJ legislation overwhelmingly approved the Mike Geltrude bill which was sponsored by Assemblyman Fred Scalera of Nutley. This bill outlaws the use of tanning salons by children under the age of 14 and requires written parental consent for children between 14 and 18 years old. The bill would also require tanning salons to post warnings on their tanning equipment. This represents an important step in the fight against Malignant Melanoma and other types of skin cancers.
